Our Michigan law firm offers legal advice and representation in a full range of intellectual property issues including trademark, copyright and trade secret protection, and advertising reviews. There are very specialized laws and guidelines that must be complied with when using and protecting your intellectual property. It is crucial to work with an experienced attorney when handling these matters.
We assist businesses with trademark protection including preparing, filing, and prosecuting applications to register trademarks, service marks, and trade dress. We perform corporate name searches and clearances, prepare license agreements and advocate for clients in trademark litigation. We also advise clients regarding unfair competition and false advertising issues.
Trade Secrets And Unfair Competition
We help companies deal with trade-secret matters such as misappropriation, unfair competition, non-compete agreements, and non-solicitation agreements. We work with clients to prepare non-disclosure agreements for employees and others designed to prevent the theft of trade secrets.
We assist clients in protecting original or creative work. Our copyright lawyers handle all aspects of copyright protection including copyright registration, licensing and copyright infringement litigation.
We assist clients with advertising initiatives to help preserve the essence of the creative message and still ensure legal and regulatory compliance. We perform marketing reviews, sweepstakes and contest counseling and verify notices and disclaimers that are necessary in advertising.

Michigan Expands Options for Personal Asset Protection
Business owners now have a new way to protect their personal assets. With Governor Snyderís signing of the Qualified Dispositions in Trust Act (QDTA) on December 5, 2016, Michigan joins 16 other states that permit domestic asset protection trusts (DAPTs). DAPTs are irrevocable trusts which, when drafted and funded correctly, can shield assets in trust from a personís creditors.
New Overtime Rule Delayed, Possibly Scrapped
Businesses, breathe easier: the new overtime rule, most widely known for raising the threshold overtime exemption for salaried employees, originally set to take effect December 1, 2016, may be scuttled altogether. On November 11, 2016 Texas U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant granted an Emergency Motion for Preliminary Injunction, effectively blocking implementation of the rule. The Department of Labor appealed the decision on December 1, 2016, but recent developments suggest that the new administration may abandon the appeal and the rule altogether. In late January, the Department of Justice, on behalf of the Department of Labor, asked for a pause in the case to allow the new administration to consider its position on the matter. more
